The wait for a premium street offering from the collaboration of TVS and BMW is finally over with the new G310R. The street bike gets the BMW badge for the international market and would most probably carry the running horse of TVS for the Indian shores. Purely manufactured in India, the new product would carry a big price tag for the international market and a reasonable one for the fans in the country. The newcomer would easily take 6 more months to get into the Indian motorcycle market for some real competition.
Design and Style
The bike gets the perfect street bike DNA in its roots, displaying a heavy stance from its first look. The mass seems to be centralized near to its fuel tank, carrying huge sharp cowls with R badging on both sides. The iconic BMW Blue and Red stripes can be seen running throughout the body with different width at different parts on the Pearl White Metallic shade. The design of the alloy wheels is quite different from any existing design on the street bikes of India. The USD forks painted Golden are again the center of attraction for the G310R. The V front headlight looks tiny before the huge body design. The exhaust design and specially its size looks offensive when compared to the body design and real purpose of the motorcycle.
The BMW-TVS G310R uses a single screen, fully digital instrument console, covered by a pentagonal small windshield from the front. It comes with all the necessary readings like tachometer, speedometer, redline indicator, odometer, trip meter and many more.
Engine and Gearbox
The excellent partnership built a 313cc, 1-cylinder, water cooled and fuel injected engine producing 33.6 BHP @ 9500 rpm and 28 NM @ 7500 rpm. The gearbox used is a 6-speed unit on the new G310R. The values are achieved below 10,000 rpm and the engine red lines at 10,500 rpm. The engine power has been limited for a longer engine life and a good fuel economy. The top speed has been claimed to be 145 kmph only.
Performance and Mileage
The bike would definitely perform well as both the brands are known for their excellent built quality and high performance. Thebike weighs 158.5 kg, merely 0.5 kg more than the closest competitor, 390 Duke. This makes it good if seen from a normal rider’s point of view as Duke 390 comes out to be an extraordinary product for the Indian market. Mileage would definitely favor the BMW-TVS G310R as the company claimed mileage is 30.3 kmpl.
The G310R is 1988 mm in length, 896 mm in width and 1227 mm in height. The wheelbase is 1374 mm, with the bike offering an excellent 785 mm of seat height. It gets a 11 liter fuel tank with 1 liter of usable reserve. Maximum payload is rated at 186.5 kg.
Brakes and Suspension
The newcomer uses a 300 mm, 4-piston caliper single disc brake for the front whereas the rear uses a 240 mm single disc with 1-piston caliper. ABS is being offered on the international version whereas the Indian version may get the same as optional. The front tyre measures 110/70-17 whereas the rear tyre measures 150/60-17. Suspension duties are performed by USD forks with 41 mm diameter at the front and aluminum swing-arm at the rear.
Shades and Expected Price
The BMW branded G310R is offered in 3 shades namely Strato Blue Metallic, Cosmic Black and Pearl White Metallic. The bike would cost above INR 4 lakh for the international market whereas it is expected to cost around INR 2 lakh in the Indian market.
